Wildlife

Ospreys, Red Squirrels, Llamas - within a 20 mile radius of Alyth you can spot them all. This area is a paradise for birdwatchers - and you don't even have to leave our garden. The local Heron regularly pays a visit to our pond, Song Thrushes and Blackbirds compete for earthworms, Tits and Finches perform aerial acrobatics around the birdfeeders.

Perthshire Trees

Hug a Tree - easier said then done when the tree has a girth of 17 metres. Perthshire has the tallest hedge in the world (Beech hedge by Meikleour), Britain 's tallest tree, the sole survivor from Shakespeare's 'Birnam Wood', and the oldest living tree in Europe (the Fortingall Yew).

In the autumn the countryside rivals more famous New England and Canada for leaf colours. Russet red, rich yellow and gold of the woodlands blend with a purple haze of heathers on the hillsides to a rich tapestry.

Gardens

You'll find some of Britain 's most colourful gardens here in Perthshire - from small, privately-owned and lovingly-tended gardens full of specialist plants and flowers, to sumptuous, formal gardens in the grounds of stately homes. Then there is Glamis Castle with the formal Italian garden; the natural heather collection at Bells Cherrybank in Perth; the woodland and Himalayan delights at Cluny, Branklyn Garden, d escribed as the finest two acres of private garden in the country, wonderful gardens at Blair Castle and Scone Palace, or the formal gardens in the grounds of the stately home at Kinross.

Take a walk in the woodland gardens at the Hermitage near Dunkeld and visit the cathedral or the Beatrix Potter Centre on the same tour.
