Tigh Na Leigh

A Tour Of Dundee, St. Andrews And The East Neuk Of Fife

Days Out from Alyth

Take the B954 to Meigle and Dundee. Amongst the sights are Discovery Point, home of Captain Scott’s Antarctic ship, the Discovery, the Frigate Unicorn - one of the six oldest ships left in the world and Verdant Works Textile Heritage centre.

Shopping is good at the Overgate centre and in the pedestrianised streets between the Overgate and Wellgate Centres. Cross the Tay Bridge into the Kingdom of Fife. Follow the A914 towards St. Andrews. If you would like to spend some time at the beach, turn off at Leuchars for Tentsmuir Sands, part of the Tentsmuir Point National Nature Reserve.

There are plenty of Picnic Sites here and lovely walks along fine sandy beaches. Lots of wildlife (seals & birds) to be seen Next is St. Andrews, home of Golf. Alongside the famous Old Course stands the British Golf Museum and not far from that the St. Andrews Sea Life Centre, both award winning visitor sites. St. Andrews itself is a beautiful small university town, with excellent opportunities for some retail therapy (even for non golfers).

Leaving St. Andrews take the A917 for a lovely tour of what is called the East Neuk of Fife. This stretch of coastline takes in picturesque fishing villages such as Kingsbarns, Crail Anstruther, Pittenweem, St. Monan’s and Elie. Anstruther has an excellent and award winning seafood restaurant ‘The Anstruther Fish bar’ with the motto "You're only as good as your last fish supper” - serving the best fish & chips in the UK. Don’t miss the Scottish Fisheries Museum in Anstruther. Or make a short detour to The Secret Bunker - a very interesting cold war relic.

At Leven take the turn off for Glenrothes. After a few miles on the A92 towards Dundee, take the A912 to Falkland Palace. To return to Alyth, follow the A912 to Perth and head north to Blairgowrie.

(Route approximately 80-100 miles / 128-160 km)
